Timucua
Timucua location, chiefdoms and villages at the time of first contact with Spanish and French invaders. The Timucua language seems to be a language isolate unrelated to any other. Although estimated to number about 200.000 in the 1500s, none remains alive today. Epidemic diseases, ill treatment and genocide by European powers all but wiped them out. Survivors were evacuated to Cuba when Spain granted ownership of Florida to Britain. There is a slim chance that descendants can be found in Cuba or in the Florida Keys. But, as of today there are no groups claiming ancestry from the once populous Timucua.
